Wedding at Kelvin Grove, Cape Town

Thérèse Barton - Dec 13, 2016

Wedding setup at Kelvin Grove, Cape Town, featuring sophisticated draping by The Events Draping Co.
It’s always a pleasure creating the event décor for a wedding. On a warm afternoon, late in November, Kelvin Grove Club in Cape Town threw open the doors of its famous ballroom venue to host a classy wedding. The Events Draping Co. was there to transform the ambience of the event venue by draping all the way around the large room and part of the anteroom.
Along the low balcony at the top of the dramatic double staircase, where the bride and groom were to make their entrance, we draped a series of swags woven with fairy lights. Peppered throughout the white draping on the ballroom walls and in the alcoves, a host of lights twinkled.
Table décor was supplied by Mabel M Florals, whose vivid red rose centrepieces were a perfect counterpoint to the crisp whiteness of the table linen and draping. The whole look was somehow magical!

Salt River Studios, Cape Town

Thérèse Barton - Nov 08, 2016

Event setup at Salt River Studios, Cape Town, featuring professional draping by The Events Draping Co.
Cape Town is fast becoming a highly desirable movie-making destination. Good value and superb locations are clearly a great combination. Based in the Mother City, Moonlighting Films are one of the top film producers in South Africa. They will shortly be filming a movie that features a cheerleading competition. They needed a massive white backdrop behind a stage for the grand finale scene. Salt River Studios in Cape Town provided the large warehouse for the event, and our draping team hung reams of white fabric that fell over 10 metres from the ceiling to the floor. The stage was set. Lights, camera, action!

Bar mitzvah setup at The Lookout, V&A Waterfront, featuring black draping to shield guests from the storm by The Events Draping Co.
The Lookout at the V&A Waterfront has one of best views in Cape Town, but when it rains what can you do? For a bar mitzvah happening at the venue we draped all along one of long sides to shield the guests from onlookers. Outside, where Chattels Infrastructure Solutions had provided a large marquee and walkway to protect the guests from the raging storm, black draping cocooned them from the storm. I’m sure it did nothing to dampen the spirits of the guests though. Mazel tov!

La Paris

Thérèse Barton - Apr 25, 2016

Converted barn event venue with steel roof beams softened by bridal white draping by The Events Draping Co.
The Events Draping Co. were asked to supply the draping for a wedding curated by the fabulous team at Wedding Concepts. The wedding event venue was the glorious La Paris Estate near Franschhoek. If you’ve never been there, do yourself a favour and check it out. Its beautiful old buildings date from the late seventeenth, early eighteenth century. The wedding reception was in The Lyceum.
A converted barn, it’s a perfect venue for larger weddings or events. Broad and spacious, flooded by light, its raw brick walls and dramatic, arched windows are offset by a series of stunning chandeliers. In this instance, there was no need to drape the walls. Our job was just to soften the look of the steel roof beams, to make them more celebratory.
The roof is about seven metres high, so out came our scaffold and the guys went to work. The huge triangular spaces created by the stark beams were dressed in bridal white and the steel skeleton was transformed. Happy days.
