Gorgeous Summer Wedding Celebration at Cavalli Estate, Somerset West

It was the culmination of a three-day celebration: the formal wedding at the impeccably maintained Cavalli Estate, Somerset West, in the Cape Winelands. Suppliers with their trucks pulsed in and out, delivering, setting up, arranging. The draping team outdid themselves this time by creating two beautifully multi-layered centrepieces in the ceiling, along with random swags on either side, all in subtle off-white fabric.

 Working against the clock on behalf of brilliant wedding planner Dear Grace, they also installed a room divider across the venue to create two very different spaces: the wedding reception and the after-party. Both this and the venue’s long wall were adorned with pretty overdrapes to complete the lavish celebratory look.

Charity Ball at Allée Bleue Estate, Franschhoek

Hosted in support of the Woolworths Trust, the annual Woolworths Charity Ball is one of the most prestigious events in the Cape Town social calendar. A fundraising initiative, the focus of the glamorous event is on facilitating food security and education to uplift communities throughout South Africa. On a balmy spring evening, the 790 guests gathered to celebrate this year’s theme of La Dolce Vita. And what a sweet life it was!

 The draping team worked their magic on a massive 70m x 25m marquee, draping the entire roof in impressive, continuous swags, as well draping the sides, both in a subtle taupe colour. They were there setting up on behalf of renowned event planner Bash Celebrations, who organised the décor in conjunction with a number of other suppliers, all offering their services for reduced fees.

Splendid Wedding at Laurent, Lourensford Estate

Planned well over a year in advance, this wedding was always going to be something special. As the season was nearing its end, the weather happily continued to deliver. Setup started two days in advance of the event – there was much to be done. The rolling lawn and bountiful gardens at Lourensford looked amazing as usual, while the wedding venue itself is always a joy to work in. And for this one, the industry suppliers were pulling out all the stops.

 On behalf of wedding planners Warren-Stone Weddings & Events, our draping specialists took things to another level. This time there were to be two designated spaces: the light, stylish main reception area, and the contrastingly sultry after-party room (more about that in a later post). Across the width of the venue, about three-quarters of the way along, the team created a room divider, delineating the separate places. They draped the divider, its apex and the walls of this area in a subtle off-white mechanical stretch fabric, overdraped with looping swags. This, along with a draped grand entrance, created an air of splendour that was perfectly complemented by the lighting, the massive lampshades, the décor, candles and furniture. All the elements came together magnificently to make this an unforgettable occasion. Events are all about teamwork, after all.

Draped Marquee for Corporate Event

Brutal Fruit recently launched their Pink Table initiative with a star-studded event at the luxurious Cavalli Estate in Somerset West. Hosted by popular television presenter Bonang Matheba, the event celebrated the power and joy of women coming together. Now a global movement, the launch was filled with good energy, great music and food, fabulous vibes and iconic fashion.

 On behalf of event planners, the Petals Group, the draping team set about decking the transparent marquee supplied by Downings. Rows of undulating, slightly irregular swags in a gorgeous shade of pink created a striking image. As the ladies partied, the ceiling strips fluttered lightly, like pink waves breaking against an azure sky. Definitively one to remember.

Wedding Arch at Vrede en Lust

It was a perfect summer’s day at Vrede en Lust Estate in the Franschhoek Valley. Everywhere the place was a buzz of activity while all the suppliers set up for a wedding on behalf of wedding planners Scape Events in conjunction with I Do Box. The task of the draping team, apart from draping the interior walls of the wedding reception venue, was something different: to transform a triple wedding arch from a Perspex shell to a magnificent statement!

And here it is in glorious dusky pink, offset wonderfully by the pretty flowers by Okasie. 

Draped Feature Entrance for Wedding at The Cooperage, Anura Estate, Stellenbosch

Draping lets you make a statement. It can lead you from one place to another, urging you to enter, like it did at The Cooperage on Anura Estate in Stellenbosch. The bride wanted a feature to transform the space in front of the main reception area. So, the draping team created a series of draped gently gathered feature entrances at a height of 5m each. The off-white fabric softened the walls and led the wedding party and guests into the interior of The Cooperage where the wedding reception was taking place.

Wedding at Zorgvliet Wine Estate, Stellenbosch

It had been raining all week in Stellenbosch. If the bride had one wish it was that the sun might shine for her special day. The day dawned, and although the Simonsberg and Drakenstein Mountains were tipped with snow, the sky was a glorious blue!

Zorgvliet is a beautifully situated wine estate hugging the Helshoogte Pass in the Banghoek Valley. The Oak Room, a large open space, is an ideal wedding venue, with its high ceilings and welcome fireplace. The bride chose a lovely dove grey for her décor and wanted the ceiling festooned with random drops and swags.

V&A Waterfront

The key to hosting a successful event rests on many aspects, but one of the most important has to be the venue itself. The Lookout at the V&A Waterfront is a hugely adaptable space that is suitable for all sorts of occasions. And then there’s the view! So what better place for a gala dinner?

The draping team was requisitioned by Hire Society, a Johannesburg based events planning company, to set up the draping for the event. They draped a series of parallel strips the length of the ceiling, a room divider to cordon off an area for the performers, and also created a kitchen area on one side. All in crisp white fabric. Such a pleasure working with The Lookout team again and connecting with a professional new client.

Wedding at The Olive Press, Boschendal in Franschhoek

Franschhoek has to be one of the most beautiful places for a wedding – the mountains, the valley, the wine farms – everything about it strikes you as special. Just outside of the town at one of the oldest farms in South Africa is Boschendal Wine Estate, with a wedding venue that never fails to deliver. The Olive Press, with its towering walls, wooden beams and natural light, it is the ideal choice for a special occasion. The draping team were there on behalf of the award-winning wedding planners, Wedding Concepts. They draped deep, random swags in the ceiling in a rich burgundy fabric and balanced the look with a series of drops from the beams in the same colour.

Wedding at Johannesdal, Stellenbosch, Cape Winelands

Along the Helshoogte Pass around the greater Stellenbosch area in the Cape Winelands, you’ll find the Johannesdal 1207 Estate resting in the valley between the Simonsberg Nature Reserve and the Hottentot Holland Mountain Range. The Johannesdal Hall is a perfect venue for a wedding, overlooked as it is by the majestic mountains that immediatly create a dramatic backdrop for any event.

On behalf of amazing wedding planners Bash Celebrations, the draping team hung random, sweeping swags of taupe fabric in the ceiling of the wedding reception venue, and created circular drops around the central area for a powerful draping statement for a special wedding.

Marquee in Paarl, Cape Winelands, for Rugby World Cup

In September the Springboks lifted the Rugby World Cup for an unprecedented fourth time. Their fans in South Africa and around the world were cheering them on. Many venues offered hospitality to fans, where they could join in the excitement with other supporters and fans who were up for the opposing sides.

In the Paarl Valley, at Klein Parys Vineyards, there was Bok Hart Rugby Park. This is a brilliant events venue for rugby lovers, a perfect fanzone. Chattels Infrastructure Solutions had erected a huge marquee of 20m x 30m. This is where fans could watch the thrilling matches that were taking place in France.

The Events Draping Co. team draped Springbok green strips in the ceiling of the marquee. They added fairy light strips on either side of the strips for a wonderfully festive finish. The marquee and draping were up for the whole six weeks of the Rugby World Cup.

Those last three matches were nail-biters, but it was all worth it in the end!

Summer Wedding at Molenvliet Wine Estate, Cape Winelands

On a glorious summer’s day, the wonderful Meagan Oosthuizen Wedding & Events Planner created magic at the reception venue at Molenvliet Wine Estate. High winds meant she had to switch plans and move the wedding dinner from the exposed verranda to the intimate courtyard. And how well it all turned out! With floral bouquets woven into the feature draping on the courtyard’s pillars and strip draping across the beams to afford shade, The Events Draping Co. team set about their work and the guests were able to relax, celebrate and enjoy the happy occasion.
